About Oppimaa
Oppimaa, meaning "Land of Learning" in Finnish, was founded with a clear vision. Our founder, Helena Lehtimäki, an experienced journalist, first launched it as an online magazine for teachers. What began as a small initiative has grown into a global platform, driven by the passion to transform education.
The Spark
Finland’s education system consistently ranked among the best in the world, sparking international curiosity. Helena wanted to uncover the key to its success. She interviewed hundreds of Finnish education experts, searching for what made the system exceptional. One critical insight emerged repeatedly: teachers felt that neurodiverse children—those with ADHD, ADD, autism, or similar traits—were not being adequately identified or supported. This realization became the foundation of Oppimaa’s mission.
Meeting the Demand
Determined to make a difference, Oppimaa took action. We recorded expert insights and created online courses to help teachers better support neurodivergent students. The need was undeniable. Within just two years, Oppimaa had trained over 11% of Finland’s teachers—proof of both the demand for this knowledge and the quality of our training.
Going Global
As word spread, Swedish-speaking schools and daycares in Finland reached out. Soon, inquiries started coming in English as well. The demand continued to grow. Today, Oppimaa provides world-class training to educators worldwide, receiving enthusiastic feedback from teachers across cultures.
